I resonate with much of what Christy said here. Especially in the way she takes care of herself while writing about traumatic events. I’ve been writing a book about motherhood (or so I thought) for almost a decade, but only this year I gave myself the permission to approach it as a professional. I’ve discovered that it is more about domestic violence than motherhood. Some of the things i write are still difficult, so I make sure to fill my well and take good care of myself by reading poetry, reading in Italian, take long walks, exercise, meditate and reach out to friends. I wouldn’t be able to show up to the writing without it. Thank you Esmé for another great piece.
